Troutman Posted March 11, 2007 Author Report Share Posted March 11, 2007 September 17, 2005 Immediately following Australian Prime Minister John Howard’s address at the United Nations on Friday, a delegation of concerned New Yorkers demonstrated at the Australian Consulate and delivered a letter addressed to Prime Minister Howard expressing outrage at the deportation of American peace activist Scott Parkin. Scott Parkin was detained last Saturday by Australian immigration authorities and held in isolation for almost a week before being deported on Thursday. Parkin, an American peace activist from Houston, has been an outspoken critic of “war profiteering” by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company Halliburton. Howard introduced a "baby bonus" a few years ago, giving non-males thousands of taxpayer's dollars to reproduce - with no minimum age or other criteria. This is the EXACT OPPOSITE of the approach we need to making a more humane and efficient society. From the Australian Taxation Office web site: "The mother is usually the person who will claim the baby bonus. You can claim the baby bonus each year until the child turns five.
