Coilover Install

Recommended Posts

So I've finally had some time to start installing the coilovers. Initially I replaced the front right lateral link, which was a piece of cake. But the rear swaybar endlinks... Damn roadsalt

I'm currently ripping out the entire swaybar, because I had to drill out the bolts on the endlinks which of course is also a piece of cake. But snapping one of the subframe mount bolts, which is welded on the subframe, was not that fun. Obviously fixable, it just takes abit more time... After all three out of four came off, not too bad after ten years in the Lake Salt...

You are not changing the sway bar bushings? They are very cheap!

I remember my sway bar links being a breeze when I installed up upgraded sway bar....since most millenia's here don't even have one. No road salt for me but I do remember one of the bolts being welded and kind of a pain to get the nut which seemed .0001 too small. So basically I think it's going to take airtools to get it off some day if ever.

I will however be watching this thread closely as I'm very curious about these coilovers

At least it has no rear spoiler...

Update: rears are in, adjusted to stock height. With damping set @ 20 and 4 persons they provide a ride extremely similar to stock, even on very bad roads. So far so good, delayed front install due to fixing a Taurus rear valvecovers huge leak, which meant the intake had to come off. Quick X-man fix, replacing the gasket with silicone sealant. Perfect seal B)

Set at 20 out of 32 on the rebound adjustment is maximum I've tried so far, after starting at 15 which proved too little, it drove like a Vastewagen. I will elaborate further once the fronts are in. I'll also post pics, to show how I've modified the rear adjustment to be able to adjust the damping through the rear deck.

Yup :)

Today I had to take out the right strut again, due to a MAJOR rattke and knocking. Turned out the top nut had worked itself through the rubber bushing :o

I refitted the nut with a big washer towards the bushing. Next step is to verify if all four are like this or if it was a factory error.

Edit: both the fronts have a washer, so this must be a factory error. I will take out the other rear strut and check it too.
