The Meaning Of "Kansei"

Kansei Engineering - (Pronounced Can-Say) KANSEI Is A Japanese Word Which, Roughly Translated, Means: "To Feel Just Right." All Mazda Vehicles Are Manufactured With This Goal In Mind.

1934 IPB Image This mark became registered trademark for Mazda when prodution commenced on our 8-wheel trucks. The name "Mazda" representes a combination of "Ahura-Mazda", the name of an ancient god and Mr. Jyujiro, founder of the Mazda Corporation

1936 IPB Image Similar to the emblem of Hiroshoma City, this mark expresses Mazda's links to its home town of Hiroshima. The "M" shaped curves symbolize Mazda Motor Manufacturer. The image of wings represents Mazda's agility, speed, and capability to soar to new heights.

Up Until 1975-1992 Mazda Did Not Really Identify Themselves With Any Sort Of Symbol. The Only Visual Logo That They Used Was This One Shown To The Left. It Was A Simple Display Of The Mazda Name In A Self-Designed Font.

In 1992 Mazda Introduced A New Emblem Which Would Be Used For The Export Market. It Is Supposed To Represent A Sun And A Flame Standing For Heartfelt Passion.

Shortly After Implementation Mazda Had To Alter The Logo Slightly By Rounding Off The Diamond Inside The Ellipse, Because The Previous Emblem Was Somewhat Similar To Renault's Corporate Logo (In France).

The Mazda symbol, or badge, on Mazda vehicles and in corporate material was introduced in 1997 on the new 626. It now appears on the full range of Mazda vehicles.

A graphic development from the previous 'M' IPB Image the new symbol was developed by Rei Yoshimura, the noted corporate identification creator. The 'V' in the centre of the 'M' in the brand symbol spreads out like an opening fan, representing the creativity, the sense of mission, the gentleness and flexibility, the resoluteness and vitality that is Mazda.

Poised like wings ready to fly, the 'V' is also a starting point for future growth. The symbol as a whole expresses the sharp, solid feeling that Mazda seeks in all its products. The dynamic circle symbolises that Mazda is ready to further spread its wings as it enters the 21st century.
