Jdubs99
Wow, I'm finding Philips kits for a few buck over 200. Anything I should be looking out for?
Troutman
Many on Ebay say Philips but are not, or they only have Philips capsules or something. You would be advised to think long term, I have come to prefer either stock headlamps or a full retrofit.
///BHRpowered
jdubs. true ballasts are semi rare, they even have counterfeit ballasts. The biggest concern is philips capsules, the ballasts are not nearly as important (just make sure there not bouncing around) As long as you can get a 4100k or 4300k (basically samething) that uses the 9006 base you'll be good and more impressed then you could possibly dream
Troutman
Though admittedly, many have started with aftermarket kits and then upgraded to a retrofit... I suggest going straight for the real McCoy if you are serious.
///BHRpowered
jdubs has an 01-02, they work amazing well with drop in hid's. When I did malice's I had to think twice to myself that they weren't OEM hid's
Troutman
Hmmm, it must depend on the projector then.
///BHRpowered
indeed, the 01-02 have a well polished clear lense and better reflector bowl, along with a sharper cutoff
Jdubs99
Hmm, this has gotten a lot more complicated as far as research than I thought. Can anyone point me in a direction for either a good conversion or a full retro?
///BHRpowered
I wouldn't recommend a full retrofit, do the drop in 4100k or 4300k kit, all it has to be is a 9006 bulb base, philips bulbs perferred.
Troutman
But you used to always recommend full retrofits for best results.
///BHRpowered
indeed for best results, but the 01-02 projectors are quite excellent, its not like a drop in reflector where you'll be blinding everyone and tons of hotspots. he can spend 2-300 and be very impressed, then upgrade someday with the same kit he already bought, or stay happy with just the drop in
Troutman
That makes sense.
