Global Warming

Republicans, the round is over. Either call the fight or reap the whirlwind. Don't give me the weeping heart social aspect. It's either put a oil rig worker on welfare, or watch coastal cities with millions of people go under. It's a question of time.

Many have argued that scientific testing methods were "inconclusive". The report from the UN says that climate change due to emissions is now "unequivocable". The Kyoto treaty is over in 2012. Seems like we are on the brink of a major decision. Continue burning as we are, or shape up.

The US isn't going to change for awhile, we even decided not to join the treaty because it was unfair to emerging markets in India and China. Call me leftist, but short term strife in low skill, high paying jobs in energy collection for ultimate climate change resulting in war, starvation, and strife is something I'm willing to accept. The top tier in the US economy has to suffer some strife in order to stay in business. I'm weeping. In my opinion, personal fortitude finally conquers who you know. Thank you social Darwinism.

In my opinion, time to get over ourselves and get ready to deal with the long term effects US influence has created in regard to emissions. We are facing the permanent flooding of continents and cities in the coming years even if we act now with drastic cuts. The atmosphere is going to continue to warm regardless.

I will promise you that in 50 years the world will not be anything your predicting, global warming AS A RESULT OF MANKIND will be dismissed as utter lies of the time, MILD global warming that has no effect on anything and is a result of nature cycles will happen and be the norm.

Look at history, no prediction ever made about 50-100 years in the future has ever been right, most often the opposite.

We have computers on our desks more powerful then anyone thought possible in 200 years and a building full of machines, yet we have no flying cars.

Nuclear weapons prevent even small wars, never start WWIII.

People can be in contact with anyone on the globe in an instant, yet people are further apart then ever.

People say we're consuming at record rates, yet production overall has dropped while recycling and efficenty are at on all time high.

Not my prediction, the UN.

And true, there are peaks and valleys over millions of years when talking about climate change. Ice core samples confirm this.

The variable is mankind. In the past, the fallout of massive eruptions caused this climate change. These were catastrophic events with consequences lasting about 3-10 years. Fossil fuel emissions cause a slow heating process, with gradual increases causing small changes in variables resulting in powerful effects on events such as El Nino, changes in the main ocean currents, small increases in ocean temperature resulting in tropical depressions turning into power hurricanes. The climate may eventually recover, but the changes we are causing will make life difficult for mankind.

As far as resource consumption, I assume you are talking about the US. On a global scale, we are burning up resources faster than ever. The US is at record low levels because our economy is transitioning, and has been transitioning, since the 1970s. For the most part, we have moved to a tertiary economy, and we are even starting to farm that out. Our economy is based mostly on services now, not primary resource farming or production.

Your arguments for predictions on the future are valid, but all of them had a measure of direct control by mankind. We have no direct control over climate change.

There will be no global warming.

you live in a world where 8 and 9 year old kids gang rape an 11 y/o whore at recess in front of other kids, thats cnn news, global warming is cheap filler and simply does not exist.

Natural cycles with the suns output do exist, and I can sight multiply examples throughout *recent* recorded history, for example washington crossing the deleware river on christmas morning pushing ice away.

Before the industial revolution even in the united states that condition was leaving time behind for its next cycle, how often does the deleware or potomac freeze over now?

You are speaking of interval, I'm talking overall shift. Media coverage, mostly by paid correspondents of media companies of whatever political bias, doesn't interest me. A UN report does interest me.

The potomac and delware do freeze as they have in the past. Some climatology can be pieced together from recorded history going back to when history started, but it's pretty spotty.

Seasons are interval to perception, permafrost melt is not. Land in Alaska is now seeing daylight that had been covered by permafrost for thousands of years. If global warming is a myth, this shouldn't be happening.

There are other examples, but I need to check the rest of the forum.

your joking right?

Ok, I'll explain how things work.

In the last 2000 years there has never been a report on any matter in the public eye which says "everything is fine" the reason is simple.

Money, if scientists came out and said everything was fine, there cotnracts wouldn't get renewed to look into it, and they wouldn't be getting paid down the road to try and solve it, people panic and instead of pulluing there head out of there ass will just throw money at a problem.

Thats why 90% of all inventions and major breakthroughs come in time of war, massive budget increases with no end in sight. Look at the cold war

commercialism, are you joking?

those are the people who run out and have to have every single new peice of crap toy "oh HD HD HD, everything has to be HD" fuicking morons "HD DVD" oh its a thousand times better, oh HD radio, its worth it, check out this tv, its only 350% over the cost of what t'v were from 1950-2001 but hey its a deal

Eh, back on topic.

You can't judge climate change by what you see everyday when you walk outside.

You have to judge by things that have been in place for milenia or longer. The example of permafrost recession in Alaska was a pisspoor example. Ice core samples from Canada and Alaska are a better example. That is a direct example of my interval vs. permanent change example. Certain ice core examples can be traced back millions of years. (Creationists gasp, don't worry, still room for deism yours truly) Changes in atmosphere have been trapped in ice for millions of years. CO2 levels are higher than ever recorded, and the results are apparent in current earth changes. Human record is piss poor, but you have to read between the lines. Record strength hurricanes = check. Katrina and Bangladesh. The permanent change of the Atlantic current = check. Again, Hurricane paths and strengths. Ozone layer degradation = don't visit Chile. The affect will spread across this parallel on the northernmost and southernmost latitudes.

Like I said before, there will always be media companies reporting stories in hopes of recieving benefits. The UN has nothing to gain, no matter the source. It's easy chemistry/physics. You take CO2 trapped in fossil fuels from a fertile past, release said energy in a chemical/mechanical reaction, and it has to go somewhere. We are just extracting enery in an extremely ineffiecient form to the detriment of us all.
