The spirit at Mazda is one that celebrates life. It's one that understands that life should be lived to the full, that driving should be pure, exhilarating fun. It's the spirit that's best summed up in our phrase "Zoom-Zoom" - that magical feeling you first experienced as a child when the sheer joy of motion made your heart beat faster. First reflected in the Mazda6, the arrival of the new BT-50 is another generation Mazda to fully reflect the style and spirit of the Zoom-Zoom philosophy. Its design is distinctive, performance exhilarating and driving a joy. The latest Mazda one-ton pickup undoubtedly sets another benchmark for its competitors.

The Mazda BT-50 combines the powerful ride of high-performance engines with responsive, passenger-car-like steering and handling characteristics to deliver distinctive Zoom-Zoom driving pleasure that appeals to both those who use a pickup truck much like a passenger car, as well as those who require tough, reliable commercial truck performance.

The luxurious refinement of the cabin interior is almost enough to make you forget that the Mazda BT-50 is a pickup truck, with new interior appointments offering true user-oriented convenience and utility; and all this is wrapped in a sophisticated, modern package that features sporty and athletic styling.

The new Mazda BT-50 series was developed to possess five key values. Its stylish and athletic design aims to express the individual; its craftsmanship aims to deliver functional beauty, build quality and customer delight; driving performance features the powerful yet fuel-efficient engine combined with superb handling; it adopts unique features with utility for a variety of practical purposes, and it also aims to provide safety levels that are top in its class.

Match one of the three available body types - Regular (single) Cab, Freestyle Cab and Double Cab - to the lineup of petrol and diesel powertrains available in each respective market the Mazda BT-50 can be tailored to perfectly suit the driver's needs, whether for use in town, an outing in the country, or for business.

The Regular Cab body can comfortably seat two or three occupants, and provides the longest cargo box with the largest load capacity. Featuring the large door opening and easy access of Mazda's unique Freestyle Door System, the Freestyle Cab body accommodates two in the front and two in the back, with the back alternately offering plenty of room for carrying precious belongings. The Double Cab body provides roomy comfort for five occupants, with two in the front and three in the back, making it just right for family use, sharing good times with friends, or for moving small work teams between locations.

Newly developed MZR-CD 2.5 and MZR-CD 3.0 direct-injection common-rail turbo diesel engines join the MZI 4.0 V6 petrol engine, MZ-DE 2.5 Turbo diesel engine, MZ-DE 2.5 diesel engine (for Thailand only), MZI 2.6 fuel-injected petrol engine and the MZI 2.2 petrol engine to form a diverse lineup that delivers a fine combination of power, fuel economy, quietness and reliability.

Models powered by the newly developed MZR-CD engines are fitted with a new 5-speed manual transmission that raises torque transmission capacity to support the greater power and torque produced.

Two types of 4WD system are available — manual shift or electric shift — with each offering easy shift operation between 2WD and 4WD modes and go-anywhere performance.

While carrying over the double wishbone front design and rear leaf springs proven tough and reliable on previous Mazda pickup trucks, the system is refined to offer a smoother, more comfortable ride.

Larger shock absorbers on the front and rear with a 32mm shaft diameter greatly improve ride comfort as well as the feel of system rigidity. Extending the rear suspension's leaf springs to 1,320mm not only makes them the longest in the class, but more importantly provides ride comfort with a mild, a reassuring feeling.

A major feature of the Mazda BT-50 is its intelligent approach to making cabin access as effortless as possible.

Freestyle Cab models adopt Mazda's unique Freestyle Door System to maximize the ease of ingress/egress to and from the rear of the cabin, as well as the loading and unloading of cargo. The front doors and rear access panels open from the centre in a design that uses no centre pillar to create an unobstructed opening of a broad 1,500mm in width.

Large side steps on the 4WD versions of Double Cab or Freestyle Cab models feature a ribbed finish on the top surface that prevents slipping for a solid foothold.

The keyless entry system on high-grade packages makes it easy to lock or unlock the doors, even when both of your hands are encumbered with boxes or bags.

Safety has also been seriously considered by Mazda in developing the new BT-50. 4W-ABS and EBD systems, which help keep the vehicle under control at all times, regardless of the road or load conditions, are available and, in addition to dual front airbags, some models are available with new side airbags for head and chest protection (marking a first for this class outside of Europe).

On models equipped with airbags, each front seatbelt adopts a pretensioner and load limiter.

Also, Height adjusters newly added to the shoulder anchors on Double Cab models help set the seatbelt in optimal position for a wider variety of body types and builds while some models are also equipped with ISOFIX child-seat anchors that make securing a child seat a quick and sure action.

Global reveal of Mazda's New One-Ton Pickup Planned for 2006 Bangkok International Motor Show Press Release:

Mazda Motor Corporation has announced the name of its new one-ton pickup range, which will make its world debut at the 2006 Bangkok International Motor Show, to be held from Wednesday 22 March through Monday 3 April 2006.

"In line with Mazda's global alphanumeric nomenclature strategy, we have named this new truck range "BT-50", a global name that will be used in all markets," says Malcolm Gough, Executive Officer and General Manager of Mazda's Overseas Sales Division.

"BT-50 recognizes the new range's B-Series Truck heritage (BT) and the number '50' reflects that this one-ton vehicle is optimally positioned between smaller payload trucks (e.g. half-ton) and much larger trucks.

"The Bangkok global premiere of the new Mazda BT-50 pickup range will provide existing and prospective owners with the chance to be amongst the first to see the world's Zoom-Zoom truck.

"BT-50 builds on a tradition of Mazda heritage and values," states Gough. "Its aggressive presence, command of the road and powerful new turbo diesel engines will provide leadership in this competitive truck segment."

With new 3.0L and 2.5L common-rail direct injection turbo diesel engines, BT-50 delivers an exciting blend of sophisticated design, refinement, responsive handling and dynamic performance. Owners of this exciting new vehicle will find its outstanding versatility, comfort and convenience whether they use it much like a passenger car or in circumstances requiring tough, reliable commercial truck performance.

With this new truck, Mazda has deepened its commitment to Thailand and Asia, which is an important centre of truck and automotive manufacturing for Asia and the world.

The all-new Mazda BT-50 injects fresh Zoom-Zoom customer benefits into Mazda's Pickup range, giving buyers more of many things - more style, more comfort, more power, more torque, more car-like comfort and even more practicality than the B-Series.

The Mazda BT-50 line-up for the UK market features four models - two Single Cab versions with a 2,280 mm long cargo bed and a choice of two- or four-wheel drive, and a pair of four-wheel drive Double Cab models with a 1,530 mm long cargo bed and choice of TS or TS 2 equipment levels.- OAS_AD('Middle'); //-->

Measuring 5,075 mm in overall length, the new BT-50 is 70 mm longer than its predecessor, while the taller cargo box sides (+ 60 mm) and upgraded rear suspension, enable the 4x4 models to carry a load of up to 1,212 kg.

All four models are fitted with a newly developed MZR-CD 2.5-litre common-rail turbocharged DOHC 16-valve diesel engine, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. More refined and more fuel efficient than the outgoing engine, this new 143 ps / 330 Nm power unit features a variable geometry turbocharger and an uprated inter-cooler to generate 34 ps more power and 64 Nm more torque.

All 4x4 models are equipped with a limited-slip differential in the rear axle, and a larger transfer case to efficiently translate the higher torque into improved traction. The car-like comfort of the new Mazda BT-50 is the result of numerous improvements, including upgraded front suspension, significant reductions in wind and engine noise at source, larger more supportive seats with a raised hip-point, higher specification audio systems and the availability of climate control air-conditioning.

UK Sales

Mazda UK will have a plentiful allocation of Mazda BT-50 vehicles during 2007 and anticipates a strong demand for this new model offering more style, car-like comfort, increased power and torque and even more practicality.

Depending on model, a choice of six exterior paint colours will be available - two micas (Black and Strato Blue), two metallics (Highlight Silver and Titanium Grey) and two solids (Nifty Red and Cool White). A black cloth velour interior is standard on all models, except the two-wheel drive Single Cab which features a Grey cloth interior.

While 15-inch standard steel wheels are fitted on the 4x2 version, the 4x4 Single Cab and 4x4 Double Cab TS feature a modern 15-inch styled-steel wheel. The range-topping 4x4 Double Cab TS 2 is equipped with 16 -inch diameter, 7-inch wide aluminium alloy wheels.
For the UK market, a special Lifestyle Accessory Pack will be available for Double Cab models. This pack consists of a front bumper guard, rear style bar, load bed liner, luxury interior mats, and Mazda BT-50 branded stainless steel scuff plates. This pack will retail at £1,499.95 including fitting and VAT.

Mazda targets Lifestyle and Commercial users with latest Pickup

Mazda's entry in the Pickup sector of the UK market was always a good, strong functional vehicle with excellent reliability. Now with the new Mazda BT-50, Mazda is introducing some of its Zoom-Zoom philosophy “insightful, ingenious and fun” and giving its latest Pickup a wider appeal to a broader audience.

“The Mazda BT-50 is a more stylish, better equipped and even more practical vehicle that has much more car-like driving dynamics than its predecessor with improved road holding and enhanced performance from its newly developed diesel engine,” commented Mazda UK's Marketing Director Mark Cameron.

“The on-the-road prices for the Mazda BT-50 range are highly competitive for both retail and commercial customers and I am confident our new model will continue to build a strong presence for Mazda in this sector,” concluded Cameron.
