German automaker BMW introduced the world's first hydrogen-drive luxury car that will be built in a limited series in Europe and driven in the United States and other countries by selected users in 2007.

 

The new BMW Hydrogen 7 is equipped with an internal combustion engine capable of running either on hydrogen or on gasoline and based on the BMW 7 series, the company said in a press release.

The BMW Hydrogen 7 is powered by a 260-horsepower, 12-cylinder engine, with its top speed limited electronically to 230 kilometres per hour, the company said.

i think hydrogen is much more effective than ethanol.

 

Environmentally maybe, in engine power no. The RX8 is down at 109 hp on hydrogen, less than half the output compared to petrol. The Saab 9-5 Biopower 2,0 turbo pushes 180 hp on ethanol (with 15% petrol mix), 150 hp on petrol. The reason is the ethanol is more resistent to detonations, allowing more charge pressure. They sell many Biopower versions now, understandable.
