Yay For Imports!

So my Mazda has had a blown globe in the climate control unit since I've had it, and now that I've got the cluster out doing an LED conversion, I figure it is a good time to fix the climate control lighting too. Great in theory.

When I pulled the unit out, I found the blown globe is a very unusual type of globe. It has a small rectangular base and is attached by two tiny metal rods, with a micro-sized incandescent bulb with the obligatory blue rubber coating. There are blue-coated #74 bulbs in there too.

So I went to the local Mazda dealership and made enquiries, and they said the part has to come from Japan and they would get back to me when they find out about its availability. Of course they never did, so I e-mailed the dealership enquiring for a second time. I got a call and supposedly the part is not available. Considering the car was in production until 2000 and I was able to get climate control bulbs for the '94 Eunos 800, I found this strange. So now I'm trying another dealership... and my last resort will be trying overseas suppliers, enquiring about buying a whole new climate control unit, or trying to get a secondhand bulb (doubtful as wreckers like to sell complete units). Either way my patience is waning.

If this proves much more stuffing around, I think I'll be over imports for life... enough is enough.

pm me the part number from your mazda dealership and I will see if I can get a couple for you. A pic would be useful as well.

It seems another dealership, Garry & Warren Smith in Mulgrave, has come up with the goods, so much for the part being impossible to get. :shifty: I have ordered the full set of climate control display bulbs and A$50 isn't really that bad a price for the 6 bulbs. So all is well once again. I will have other minor updates complete soon as well, just waiting on some final parts from Bacon.
