Smoking Ban

From 1st July 2007, in the UK, there will be a complete smoking ban in ALL public and business places including transport used by more than one person i.e. taxis, coaches, trains etc.

This also means that there will be NO MORE designated smoking areas in places of work either and smokers will have to leave the premises to further their habit.

I haven't really fully considered the ramifications of this or how this will be enforced but it is certainly one of the biggest things to hit the UK in years.

Any offences will be punishable with on-the-spot-fines !

Would the US ever consider such a move ?

Australia has a slow and steady approach, there is now no smoking in sheltered public areas such as areas of train stations with a roof. A bit less drastic than the UK's approach, unfortunately.

I await someone banishing it outright, screw the "image" of hippie ass whores. And I think the US will trail by a few decades the way things are these days...
