colbylamb2006
Hey all. I haven't posted on the forum in a while. Just gonna give a little update. My car currently has 199,915 miles on it with no major problems. The engine is ticking while idling. Any thoughts on what that could be? I thought low oil but it's fine. It will get another oil change at 200,000. My car also smells of gasoline most of the time when I get out of the car after I park and shut the car off. The last time it was serviced (August 2011) they repaired a vacuum line. The time before that when it smelled of gasoline, I had gasoline on top of my engine after they removed the top part of the engine to see what the problem was. I'm only getting about 290-300 miles per tank.... Other than that, my car is still running fine. Never had any problems....How many others here have over 200,000 miles? I've been shopping around for a used BMW 5 series or a Range Rover HSE (non sport). But everything I seem to drive doesn't drive quite like the Mazda. I'm just scared something will happen and I will have to repair (transmission/engine/etc). The good news is, currently I don't have a car payment which is nice and the millenia is becoming more rare as the years go on. Currently where I live there are 3 others besides mine. A 2001-2002 Red one, a 2002 White with tan on the bottom, my black one and a 1999-2000 white and tan one. All L or P models, no S. How is everyone else doing? ///BHRpowered
Excellent check it, and welcome to the 200k club, something that is also getting more and more rare as the millenia's fall into the hands of ghetto rats and children who do nothing to maintain them. Have you changed your timing belt yet, just wondering. ticking could be a bunch of things, some seafoam might help, loosing some lifters etc, could be exhaust bolts. as for gas, first off 300 per tank is pretty damn amazing, when I drove my millenia full time BRAND NEW off the showroom floor I was only gettin 220-230 per tank, infact the most I ever got was 320 on a very flat roadtrip. Still you shouldn't be smelling gas. Sounds like maybe a fuel line to an injector is loose.
latinopikachu
i plan to get to a million. and mine has a light ticking too at idle that seems to be rotational, but nothing's amiss and it's done it for years. With the hood open it sounds as if it's the lifters, again nothing serious. and you are correct in that NOTHING will drive like a millenia. NOTHING. everything else drives like mushed out numbass hippy lexus driver garbage
Frankzao
I agree completely with the Lat Kitty......nothing drives like a Milly.... HLA's as the manuals call them are the hydraulic lifters. There is one out on my brother's 2.5L Milly rear bank and a PAIN to get to....have to remove intake and timing belt. his has 83000 miles on it so worth the $$$$... colbylamb2006
I had the timing belt changed twice...the first guy that changed it when it broke made the timing belt tension pulley squeal so I took it to the mazda dealership and they changed it and the pulley again but this was days later. This was probably late 2008 after I started at UGA. The check engine light has been flashing now for probably 2 days but it still drives fine and accelerates properly. I know it's a misfire but I don't know where. I wanted to trade in my car but I want to keep it now since it drives so good. It's paid for and has been paid for completely 100% since the day I bought it from the mazda dealership in 2006. I can't justify spending money on another car. I thought about it for a long time and I have been car shopping for a good long time now but I have put 120,000 miles on my car in the last 5 years and I've had no major problems besides the timing belt breaking and my car shutting off because of a large hose under the engine and while I had it overhauled I had a oil gasket head replaced and the spark plugs....so now it should be ready to go for another 100,000 miles.... My back bumper is chipping paint in large areas. I need to have that repaired. Also, one more thing. My passenger side xenon went purple the other night and then one night just flickered and went out and hasn't came back on. Is this the bulb that has gone bad or the ballast?? Other than that, my car is perfect.
latinopikachu
and if i dont adjust valve lash what will happen it sounds like that, aside from the shitty dieseling sound, the repetitive "60 minutes stopwatch" like from the intro and outro of segments on 60 minutes type of sound. mine is quieter, though not as loud
colbylamb2006
That's kind of how mine sounds but more dry sounding like it's out of fluid or something. Does anyone have any input on the xenon going out, or my check engine light flashing? It's probably a misfire but it drives fine??
Frankzao
Pull the code.....
colbylamb2006
I just had the code pulled and it says random misfire cylinder 1 and 2.
///BHRpowered
I would start by swapping cylinder 3 coilpack to 1 and seeing if it follows, I.E 2 and 3 misfire, then check 2 etc to see if it really is always 2 coils or just one. Also, KEEP IT. if its paid for there is ZERO reason not to keep it, even if you get a new car so what? you won't get much on trade in, change your insurance and everything around and its basically a free millenia. I seem to remember you got one of the cheap ebay kits correct? the bubl going purple...or more rice purple means its done, must be replaced. The other side could be bulb or ballasts. Only way to check is to swap the bulbs around and see if problem follows. If its the ballast first thing to check is grounding. Ballasts are pretty touchy about that sort of stuff
