  1. I have a little story to share. My millenia may now rest in peace. Mileage at death, 207,328. Numerous problems all occurred at once. Even though I wanted to fix them it was going to be so expensive.

Crank shaft seal was leaking oil (BAD). I had to add oil numerous times in between oil changes. Brakes needed to be replaced, rotors needed to be replaced, engine lifter was vibrating, engine was making a bad noise, engine was burning oil, probably because of the crank shaft seal, transmission started to slip Friday, January 27, 2012. I was driving home from work to meet friends to go to St. Simons Island, Georgia for supper at the Crab Trap. I would prepare to pass someone on the highway and it would barely get up and go anymore. Finally when I got into the other lane, the engine would rev up too high and finally shift out so I could pass, most of the time almost too late as a car was coming at this point. I knew something wasn't right but I went to eat anyway. Friday night when I returned from eating supper, I drove my car home ( about a 15 mile commute ) and my car would barely go over 50 miles per hour. I knew something wasn't right and I prayed to God I got home safe. It was jerking really bad if I tried to press down on the gas pedal any more and jerked really bad from 1st gear to 2nd and from 3rd to 4th. I got home safely and the next morning let my step dad drive my car down the road. He told me that it was my transmission and he advised me to go look for another car. Well I had looked online all night for local cars for sale at the numerous dealerships in surrounding counties. The engine was making a terrible noise on Saturday the 28th. I drove to a local used auto dealership to see if I could trade my car in on a 2006 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SL. The salesman offered me $2,000 for my trade and my car wasn't even worth 1,400 in fair condition. Fair condition because the windshield is cracked, the back bumper was chipping paint (BAD) and all the other numerous problems listed above. I test drove the Maxima while they were looking at my car and thank God they didn't drive it because it would have been less money offered for my trade.

I hated to see my car go. I have had that millenia for 5 years and 7 months yesterday the 30th. It has been with me to South Georgia College, The University of Georgia, and Georgia Southern University. I have had some great memories in that car. I put 121,000 + miles on that car and was really beside myself when I pulled away in my new to me Nissan Maxima loaded with every stinking option available besides navigation. I'm still really sad. I was cleaning out the various little items in my car like some CDs and other what nots and just really broke down and almost cried. I have never been like that about a car. 5 and a half years is a long time to own a vehicle and since this was my second vehicle I was really attached. My first car was a honda accord LX that I drove in high school and it wasn't special at all so I wasn't attached to that one.

Over the years I have tried my hardest to take great care of the millenia and fix stuff when it broke, keep it washed weekly and waxed every 6 months to a year. But at this point in it's life, being 10 years old and having over 200,000 miles, it was beginning to be a money pit. Used transmissions would have been over two thousand dollars and I just didn't see putting that kind of money into a car that was barely worth two thousand dollars on a trade in and less than 4,000 dollars private party value in Good condition or fair condition.

Sorry for the long lengthy post but I have had a hard time since yesterday letting go to this car. On this used car lot they also had a silver 2002 Millenia with 99 thousand miles that I considered seriously but I wondered if I was going to have to go thru all the same stuff again. I was ready for a change.

The Nissan Maxima that I now drive was a 1 owner with only 50,000 miles. A teacher had it before me and the guy was selling it for her on his lot. I got it for a great price and with low miles! I wasn't worried about it because it didn't look like other cars on his lot, although very clean, just vehicles found at the auction and driven hard. This Maxima was worth it to me and the bi-xenon stock headlamps are awesome!!! I do love my new car but I miss the millenia very much!

I will stay around and view new pictures, although here lately no one has put up any. I will post the last pictures of my millenia in the last couple months that I had her and the couple pictures I took of it the day I traded it.

Again, sorry for the long post. I hope y'all have some input. If my car had not messed up this weekend I literally would have kept driving it until it had half a million miles!

    Y'all take care.

  2. I had the timing belt changed twice...the first guy that changed it when it broke made the timing belt tension pulley squeal so I took it to the mazda dealership and they changed it and the pulley again but this was days later. This was probably late 2008 after I started at UGA. The check engine light has been flashing now for probably 2 days but it still drives fine and accelerates properly. I know it's a misfire but I don't know where. I wanted to trade in my car but I want to keep it now since it drives so good. It's paid for and has been paid for completely 100% since the day I bought it from the mazda dealership in 2006. I can't justify spending money on another car. I thought about it for a long time and I have been car shopping for a good long time now but I have put 120,000 miles on my car in the last 5 years and I've had no major problems besides the timing belt breaking and my car shutting off because of a large hose under the engine and while I had it overhauled I had a oil gasket head replaced and the spark plugs....so now it should be ready to go for another 100,000 miles....

My back bumper is chipping paint in large areas. I need to have that repaired.

Also, one more thing. My passenger side xenon went purple the other night and then one night just flickered and went out and hasn't came back on. Is this the bulb that has gone bad or the ballast??

Other than that, my car is perfect.

  3. Hey all. I haven't posted on the forum in a while. Just gonna give a little update. My car currently has 199,915 miles on it with no major problems. The engine is ticking while idling. Any thoughts on what that could be? I thought low oil but it's fine. It will get another oil change at 200,000. My car also smells of gasoline most of the time when I get out of the car after I park and shut the car off. The last time it was serviced (August 2011) they repaired a vacuum line. The time before that when it smelled of gasoline, I had gasoline on top of my engine after they removed the top part of the engine to see what the problem was. I'm only getting about 290-300 miles per tank....

Other than that, my car is still running fine. Never had any problems....How many others here have over 200,000 miles?

I've been shopping around for a used BMW 5 series or a Range Rover HSE (non sport). But everything I seem to drive doesn't drive quite like the Mazda. I'm just scared something will happen and I will have to repair (transmission/engine/etc). The good news is, currently I don't have a car payment which is nice and the millenia is becoming more rare as the years go on. Currently where I live there are 3 others besides mine. A 2001-2002 Red one, a 2002 White with tan on the bottom, my black one and a 1999-2000 white and tan one. All L or P models, no S.

    How is everyone else doing?

  4. When the speedometer jumps around, it jumps from like 20 ish to whatever speed I'm going and back down again, and then jumps back up to normal..then the light will come on and it brakes as it is supposed to. When I go to brake sometimes it will grind and the brake pedal wont go all the way down until I come to a complete stop...it's beyond me. The car still drives fine though, just sometimes at low speeds is when this noise happens...

  5. I installed an aftermarket xenon kit in my car a little over a year ago and they are working fine, except that when I turn them off, sometimes the xenons do not go off, but the parking lights, tail lamps, and interior lights all go off on the radio, A/C, etc. Could it be the relay for the xenons? At one time, my xenons would not come on at all, but I found out it was a blown fuse because the bright lights would work and all my other lights would too.

Any insight on this issue? I'm thinking it's the relay, but I'm not sure.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

  6. Well as of today my 2002 Millenia has 183,000 miles on the clock. My only problem with my car is that sometimes the speedometer jumps around before it stops and increases and decreases with the speed of the car. Also after it stops jumping around the ABS light will come on and then it will do fine. The other problem is that while all this is happening, if I apply the brakes, there is a grinding noise and the brake pedal will not press all the way down, but not a grinding noise like if my brake pads were wearing out. Usually after I apply the brakes pretty hard and it's making that noise, the ABS light comes on if it's not on already, and usually when the ABS light is on it doesn't make the noise or the speedometer wont jump around. And sometimes my car doesn't do any of this at all.

Any thoughts? I just had new brake pads installed in September 2009.

    Thanks.

  7. Hello all. I brought my car to Fairway Mazda in Savannah yesterday for a gas leak smell. It was something with the EVAP called a purge valve solenoid. It was having a terrible smelling of gas when I shut the car off and sometimes when I crank it up. But my real problem of this post is because when I accelerate my car shakes and then as I drive around 50 mph it doesn't shake, or when I drive 70 on the interstate. It just does it when I accelerate. The shop at home is telling me that it is a CV axle that it does it when the front tires are spinning, etc. I thought it was a bent rim? Any suggestions. Throttle body, Engine mounts, Transmission mounts???

    Thanks for all the help.

  8. Yeah I'm pretty pissed. My kit is 5000K and purchased from Mobilehid.com so I don't know why its doing it. If I drive with the brights on is the gas running out of the xenons???

woah, thats pretty damn high, the gaskets may leak but that shouldn't cause it to run rough, plugs wires etc do yourself, as for the lights what brand are they? color temp?

If they leak again after they did it then they damn sure need to fix the issue. If these are ebay hid's that are 6k or above in color temp then its just rice garbage and there time to go. Having it in a shop being moved around would be more then enough. If there quality kits that cost atleast 200 and use proper 4300k bulbs then I would check relays

  9. The millenia has been struggling lately. It was idling rough and then when it was time to hit the gas it would barely even go. Then one morning while in Chick-fil-a drive through, it shut off on me 3 times. I knew something was wrong but I didn't do anything about it until that evening when it shut off on me in traffic. When I crunk it back up, and floored it so it wouldn't stall again, it would jump like 5 times and then when it got in 2nd gear it would drive okay. Well to make a long story short, I took it to the shop. I took it to University Imports because I didn't want to take it to the mazda dealer. University Import's mazda tech was out sick. I took it to another shop. After a $1000 estimate I had it fixed. All the problems included: spark plugs and wires, valve cover gasket replacements, head gasket(s), air intake problems, the snorkel I guess is what they called it, it's the big hose on the right side of the 2.5 engine, knock sensors. ANYWAY, it stayed at the shop on Thursday and promised it to me on Friday afternoon because I was going home for the weekend, ended up on Friday afternoon at 4 told me that I needed a mazda only part and none of the part places around here had it. So it had to wait to be fixed until the following week. I picked it up the following Thursday and drove it home Friday, washed it detailed the inside and moved it to the garage and to find out it's now leaking oil!!!!!! I took it back to them and they said they would fix it for me, but it's smoking too and smells HORRIBLE when I shut it off. Is it the oil leak, leaking on the manifold and causing the whitish smoke?

Also, after I got my car back from them on that Thursday pick up, my aftermarket xenon lights one night didn't fire up. After driving for a few minutes they automatically came on...then last night I was driving to pick up a pizza, drove there fine, picked up the pizza, then crunk back up and no lights, drove a little bit and after popping the hood while driving they came on. I think there might be a shortage but im having to drive with the brights and I'm worried since the xenon lights aren't on the ballasts are running and making the lights not fire up at all now. They absolutely will not come on now, I've tried popping the hood again like last night and nothing.....

    Help! Thanks.

  10. I have a problem. My car has 165,800 miles on it now and the heater is starting to mess up. I don't know if it's whether I run it anywhere from 80-90 degrees with either AC, AC/ECON, or no AC at all. But now it's hot when I'm driving and when I slow down to turn or completely stop at a light or intersection it is not hot any longer and as soon as I start driving again it goes hot or back warm again. It's so weird. I thought it was the thermostat?? Or I may be running the AC when it's not needed, but if I do that the windows fog up...Can anyone please tell me what is wrong with my car. Otherwise no problems with my millenia. Still running very strong!

  11. Ok I ordered 5000K HID from MobileHID.com and now my problem is how hard or how easy is it to install in my car. I can't see where to place the ballasts...The wiring diagram looks simple enough. But can someone provide pictures on here, or point me to the right thread so I can see how and where to wire everything up. I thought I knew how to do it but I need some assistance. I've looked on other threads but they don't make sense...PLEASE HELP. EMERGENCY.
