  1. If I remember correctly Ren suggested changing it at 180k. The S belt is made of aramid fibers, same stuff used in bullet proof jackets. Its not a rubber band that will snap at 80k if not changed at 60k like toyota belts.

All millenia engines are non-interference. Notice the cavities on the piston:

My old belt (which was original) doesnt even have a hair crack on it and it looks brand new. I still have it. Same as the tensioner. Pulleys were not like that, they had resistance to rotate and were full of rust. The first thing to go bad there I think is the tensioner which has no change interval from mazda.

Thermostat is $5-6 from mazda and it is not hard/not expensive to change. You spent a small amount of money and omit the possibility of engine damage. Thermostat does go bad over time.

You can clean the pads/change brake fluid annually, it is nothing to do with timing belt job.

P/S fluid should be dex2 compatible according to the manual. Dex6 is dex2 compatible. You cant believe how light your steering will be. When I changed mine I thought the linkage to the wheels is disconnected.

  2. Dont change the belt, why do you spend money? I did mine at 135k miles.

If you wanna change the belt, you should change: the tensioner, idler pulleys, serpentine belt tensioner bearings, thermostat, and top engine mount (if needed) on top of your list.

And if you order online keep in mind that the water pump doesnt come with the gasket (though the picture shows opposite).

Change p/s fluid with dexron 6.

  3. Mysteriously my passenger side lock/unlock switches are illuminated more than half of the time now. At first I though there was a car on my blind spot as I thought mazda stole those bulbs. In a second I figured out the switches were lit up. They are either on or off when I start the car, they never blinked yet. After 45k miles of ownership this is quiet a surprise.

I am excited to see milly started fixing itself.

  4. Just got off the phone with them...still have it but have gotton a few calls....discussed prices and financing, which is horrible since I no longer finance cars. But at 118/month....thats damn tempting. do 60 months then once pick up just pay it off.

Then again working in finance I know thats what has caused problems with people before.

If you have problem paying you can always sell the black millenia for $7k and pay the gray one off..

  5. Yeah, alot of other companies have figured out how to make them and since oem hid's are now an option on many many cars there simply produced in bulk and made cheaper.

For the conversion you would need.

    projectors

    bulbs (capsules)

    ballasts (2)

wiring harness powering ballasts DIRECTLY from battery and remote turn on lead into factory low beam +

    Thats it.

Ballasts not included here right? Wires should be cheap. I assume we have to remove the front plastic to replace the lens? Darn too much work.. If only it was plug and play..
