  1. I don't care what anyone says, all Mazdas = Rust. Look at any Mazda that's north of 8 years old and you'll find rust on the body panels. The only ones that aren't riddled with automotive chicken pox are the ones that were oil sprayed proactively by owners on an annual basis.

This of course applies to climates where snow and salt are present.

  2. Sadly were now in an era where people buy them just to get around, It may be another 10 years or so before they reach collector status

It's we're, sadly, some things never change.

Update: My friend sourced a low mileage tranny for $500 and then was quoted 8 hours labor to change it. I laughed when I heard that, looks like I'll be under the hood of a milly again some time soon.

  3. A friend I haven't seen in at least 5 years showed up on my doorstep yesterday. He was, incidentally driving a 98 milly S that's gold. He picked it up for cheap as he just needed something to get around in. He mentioned that the tranny shifted hard so we went for a spin. Sure enough, it seems that the clutches in the tranny are slipping a little. As such, he's going to see if he can source a tranny for a swap.

If anyone is parting one out locally (Southwestern Ontario) let me know.

    Not back Saint, just visiting.

  4. You can easily source an engine for under $2k, and add another $1k for install and other crap needed. As long as there's no serious hicups, a swap can easily be done in under a day for someone that knows what they're doing. Shit, if I lived in the states I could have retired already just fixing millies.

  5. With the CAC off you can access all but one vacuum hose. To get that last one you have to remove the front intake manifold...not worth it. And as MTS said, make sure you get thick walled hoses if you're using silicone otherwise they can/will collapse when anything above 10 inches of mercury is applied.

And why would YOU do this yourself BHR, historically speaking, you like giving the dealership your money?

  6. but you use and abuse cars. If this was a northern car I would be more worried

why do you think it would rust, if the doors were repainted and not replaced it would be a minor issue ir done cheaply...like by asians.

The rear quarter was damaged, which isn't easily replaced and is most often repaired. The doors can be replaced, and I assume were, but everything depends on the quality of work. If you want to know who 'fix car' then reread the ad/posting. And I don't abuse cars, I know that they inevitably end up in scrap yards and as such drive them accordingly. Not to mention, mine doesn't have a dime sized chip in it like your milly does. And as for rust, when the body panels are made, they have a rust inhibitor plated onto the steel before it's primed/painted. When body work is performed, the body is sanded down to the steel, through the coating, and is bondoed/primed/painted. Without the inhibitor, steel rusts. Why do you think body shops offer warranties against rust on worked on areas for some period of time (usually a year)? And humidity = moisture just like rain or snow.

  7. I would honestly be more interested in a big brake kit first though

I forgot to add, why would you rather a bbk instead of coilovers? The milly brakes are good enough for the street. Anyone that gets fade on the street needs to learn how to drive. Therefore, unless you track the car a bbk is a waste. A better suspension on the other hand, that you use all the time. There is no time that you drive where a better suspension wouldn't be...well...better.

    BBK = show

    Coils = go

    You choose.

  8. because lat, unlike nappy obama supporting ghetto rats who defaults on everything and stand in welfare lines talking on cell phones I never spend money I don't have

You're kidding right? You think it's only black people that overspend? Look at the housing market in Las Vegas (Nevada being prodominantly white). Not to mention Nevada supported McCain, not Barak. I also disagree with overspending, but it has nothing to do with race or politics. Stupidity goes beyond the borders of politics or race.

  9. so let me get this straight, its costing you 2000 dollars to decrease your MPG, to run a fuel that your engine doesn't like, and that you actively have to seek out, combined with the fact in most states you can't even pump your own lpg

Apparently I was correct regarding your math skills. Propane burns cleaner and doesn't wash oil off cylinder walls like gas, so your engine actually prefers LPG. LPG is common enough, here. And why would I want to pump my own gas? Canada + winter = effin cold. Not to mention, here the douce bags in office decided pumping gas was a hazard for stupid people so they slowed the flow down in the pumps (takes longer to pump gas), and they removed the pump locks so you have to stand there with your hand on the pump. I generally jam my gas cap in there so it keeps pumping, but if they can see that you've done this, they stop the pump from inside the station...dickheads.

  10. pay for itself

how the fuck do you figure that with decreased mpg, dirtier engines, poor performance, and all the labor involved?

    Cost - $2000

    mpg loss - ~10%

LPG - cleaner than gasoline (by far), why do you think only battery operated and lpg run fork lifts are allowed to be used indoors? Use some sense.

performance loss - 1% (if that)

labour involved - included in price quoted above.

    Now, savings - ~50% per fill-up.

If you can't do that math...well, it wouldn't be you if you could do the math.

For someone that keeps pushing octane, you really are a hypocrite. LPG has octane in the 108-110 range (depending where you buy it) which means you can really push the timing on the engine, or level of boost, or compression ratio. It is far superior to gasoline.

How about LPG stations in CA? In EU its denser than gas. In here none, and CNG well one station per semi large city, sucks.

Ren I dont know the whole story but they say LPG dissolves magnesium. I think some cars (eg. mazda3) has magnesium in the valves.

Saint, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything that says propane destroys/effects magnesium. Not to say it doesn't, just that I couldn't find support or didn't understand what I was reading (<-very posssible). I don't see how they could use magnesium for valves though. Magnesium + fire = very bright light + very hot fire. The valves would burn up almost instantly. Not to mention, the new mazda3 is hideous. It's unbelieveable that they could make some minor changes and completely fuck a car up. It looks like real life japanimation. I'd sooner walk than drive that car.

As for LPG stations, where do you get your barbque tanks filled?

  11. I'm seriously concidering it, but I do NOT want a bouncy ride (as in lack of rebound damping compared to spring stiffness), if the setup is say no more than 20% firmer than stock damping it wold be fine. Clue, I take it the damping is adjustable, do you know if there is both bound and rebound adjustment?

For that price Xedos, there's no way they'll have separate adjustments for both compression and rebound. They will probably have a single adjustment for both. I wonder if you can order specific spring rates, or if they're all the same?

  13. Those are old school. New systems have dedicated LPG injectors (you have to drill holes into the intake manifold), and use a piggyback ecu that gets tuned separate from the gasoline tune. One guy has it and lost a total of 0hp and 5lbs of torque with this setup.

And another benefit to dual fuel rather than the old dedicated LPG systems is you can still run a top end cleaner through the system if/when you want.

  14. I skipped about 6 pages worth of *reading* so I don't know when exactly this thread died.

Anyhow, I'm going to switch my e46 to run a dual fuel setup with LPG. As I see it, it pays for itself in a year, then every following year I save $2000. That's a lot of mods that this will cover. Slightly used s/c kits for e46's are selling for about $2000. Much better option than any other fuel in my opinion; diesels are loud and expensive initially, not to mention you can never undo having a diesel (without selling it), CNG has too great a power loss, hybrids are like diesels, expensive, heavy, and useless. Finally gasoline, expensive. Not to mention, with LPG engines last longer because the cylinders don't get washed like they do with gas.
