If the slow move to Green progresses (as it appears to be), something tells me that automakers will take new interest in some alternative combustion engine designs like the Miller.

I used some back to black in the pictures i just posted. It worked great on the harder compound stuff around the front and back windows, was spotty on the softer compound around the doors. It looked like it would not absorb in some areas .

I'm assuming the ping sensor is linked to lighting up a CEL from past reading. If that is the case, if 93 were required, we'd have a ton of members throwing posts up here. MTS, didn't you do some kind of number crunch using both fuels?

The work i did from two years ago to restore the lights yellowed, so i fixed that. I also took some pics of the OEM spoiler with the car clean.
Redid the headlights with 220, 400, 800, 1000, rubbing compound, polishing compound, plastic polish, plast-x (same shit i noticed), scratchX, and three coats of wax.

Replaced the thermostat today, i haven't had any issues whatsoever since reassembly. I'm still getting high RPM loping at times, mostly when the engine isn't up to temp. Getting oil deposits around the PCV, and general oil drippage around the engine. They seem to be VCG issues. The iridiums are still holding up. From what I can figure, I've got a coil or two about to bite the bullet and a VCG leak. Coolant color was as good as the day i replaced it, ruling out head gasket i'm guessing. Sludge build up on a valve or a failing coil might account for the high RPM loping i guess.

I bet the gauges are way off.

Hmm, full size spare is possible now that the sub is no longer sitting on the trunk floor. I could relocate the amps to the sides of the trunk and carpet the spare well.

I was expecting a lot more backpressure blurb like with similar non-canister exhaust (Magnaflow, Flowmaster), and it simply isn't there. The videos from the first MW meet caught my eye for Borla, and this was the closer for me.

Prohibition all over again. People are doing it, and will do it. Better to legitimize it and punish those going outside the established system. Far more harm has been caused by those hopped up on *This reference banned by MW* than marijuana. Just like with every legalized drug, social darwarinism will take its course that don't maintain control. Risk is low, gain is high (lol). The DEA is perfectly capable of converting itself from an enforcement to regulation agency, and would prove itself more effective than it is now. Better that pot is regulated, inspected (no lacing) and dispersed regularly. The numbers back up the argument as does prohibition. Hell, the president of our country at the time had booze smuggled into the white house. He had kegs waiting waiting when it was repealed.
It's a slippery slope, but i would draw a definate line at that point as far as drugs are concerned.
Steve, i agree with most of what you said. I don't care what anyone does in the confines of their property. However, driving impaired in any way, shape, or form with the chance of your decisions affecting other members of society is wrong. But, we have steep laws for that to induce lessons learned for most people. Again, social darwinism. Cause and Effect.
BHR, way off base. Prohibition was frankly dumb, and i again mention social darwinism. Those not fit for society purge themselves eventually whether it be drugs, physical, financial, etc. The point of margin is how long they last, and if any societal resources are spent on the ultimate outcome.
Trout, marketing is successful to a point. The human response to advertising is pretty defined at this point to the mediums we currently have. Prohibition would again by my argument. There are certain substances in society that man has cultivated and used, and always will use without regard to societal influence. Tax hikes and reduced advertising would only effective to a certain minimal degree.

I forget the town in Georgia, but they are beginning to charge speeders a gas fee for being pulled over to cover rising gas cost. Fundamentally wrong in my opinion. Speeder or not, you pay taxes on your gas, and you pay taxes on public services, including being pulled over.
That's like getting a ticket for jaywalking, and having to pay for the officers lunch as well as the ticket.

So much easier with an autocratic society. You get conquered, if they are nice enough to let you live, you have to adjust. In the case of Muslims, the Koran provided that "people of the book" should be allowed to keep their religions provided they pay a tax. This was true for monotheiest at least. Might be a good lesson to take, even to the point of using the elasticity of our constitution if need be.
In my opinion, the variable of the seperation of church and state has caused a religious/cultural flux in the past 300 or so years. We have progressed from a society that crushed those different than us in regard to culture and religion, to one that accepts the culture and beliefs of others. In the past this was represented by political power legitimized by religion. Now we have religion legitimizing(sp) political power. Look at how McCain and Obama are courting the fundamentalist currently.
I've been critical of Henry Ford's "americanizing" ritual he used with immigrants in the past. I'm beginning to think I was wrong.
Diversity is a good thing, up to a certain point. There has to be a division or rallying point somewhere (nationalism), otherwise it's the tower of babel all over again.
This effect on other social strata such as nation economies and law is a seperate issue that would take multiple pages for me to comment on.
Anyway, i actually agree with BHR and MTS on this topic. If you decide to become a citizen of a nation, you must be prepared to forego certain "god-given" liberties in exchange for security. It's one of the basic principles of philosophy and why governments exist in the first place.

A showdown where most radar detector manufacturers show up to test their product against the competition is proof positive for me.

The merger has been approved, with some good and bad sticking points. Both companies and services will remain the same if they wish to keep what they already have. New services will include a la cart choices. The new company had to bow to public services broadcasting (thanks Senator Stevens and Kerry > ). However, prices are fixed for at least 2 years, and prices will be lower for those choosing their channels. Too bad cable doesn't have to bow to these rules.
On a positive note, Ted Stevens, the main opposition to the merger, and originator of the bridge to no where pork spending, has been indicted for failing to report earnings for upgrades to his Alaskan home. Makes me wonder if the NAB provided the funds.

I've never seen a 4" speaker, Bose or not, in the 01-02 Milly. Mine were 6.5, and the plastic bracket supported a 6.5s and crossovers with some modification.

Took some pics while replacing the thermostat.
No modification to the rear deck lid cover was necessary.

Nice, I didn't have to play guinea pig with Borla. I think I'll be moving ahead with my Borla plans when i'm not broke.

We doing universal parts on this thread?
Hayden Oil Cooler
High Performance Engine Fan SPAL
Intercooler misting system
Catco High Performance Catalytic Convertors
All smalls gains to be sure, but they add up.

I had intended to put it back together and drive it up to autozone to pull a code. I'm guessing enough oil had filled up the wells that one or two plugs weren't able to maintain good connection with the coils, or enough oil had coked on the plugs themselves to maintain a spark.
-
I put the engine back together, massive blue smoke for about 2 minutes. No cel, no rough idle. Took it for a 3 mile run with no issues except the loping at high rpm that it had before. I'm gonna let it sit for a few hours and start it up again.
-
Only variables i can figure are...
Engine wasn't warm (damn near impossible to disassemble the car in time to run a compression check under warm conditions)
Intercoolers weren't connected (not possible to get access to sparkplug wells otherwise)
Oil from the leakage got into the combustion chambers overnight and pooled causing a false reading on each cylinder
I dunno guys, need some ideas, i don't have the $$ to make this a project car.
-
Just did the compression test on each cylinder...
185 195 195
O O O
O O O
208 180 200
Judging from the readings and taking wear into account, I'm guessing that 240-220 is the normal measurement for a fresh from the factory engine. Judging from what I've read so far about valve leaks and doing the compression check, the VCG should have been replaced a long time ago (prior to me owning it), and possible valve problems on the upper left and bottom middle cylinder.
-
I really wish i could, but I have to magically come up with 6000 to attend and finish school next semester.
I'll have to collect on the gas wager next year, no big commitments next summer or fall.
-
I do have a code throwing, but i decided backtracking symptops to a condition might be a good idea, hence the compression gauge. Anyone know the factory spec psi per cylinder? If anyone knows the trigger wire for the starter near the fusebox that would help me out also.
A valve issue I might be able to deal with, but if the head is gone, the S is heading back to the farm.
-
I can't attend this year. I was barely able to afford summer intercession classes, and now i have this repair. I'm heading up to Advance Auto right now to get an engine compression gauge. I'm gonna try to figure out what the state of my KJ is while it's mostly apart.

I wonder if the inside of the OEM box causes as much air turbulence as the outer shape suggests.
