Troutman
http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleD...57395&vf=12 Mazda has updated its classic MX-5 sports car with fresh styling and an injection of personality as part of a facelift mid-way through the car’s life. To be again sold as a soft-top or folding hard-top, the new MX-5 – the world’s most popular two-seat convertible - has been given a styling makeover and engine revisions that bring more power and more character. The revised Mazda MX-5 was revealed at the 2008 Paris motor show. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine has been revised to now rev to 7500rpm, 500rpm higher than the outgoing MX-5. But power hasn’t improved, still peaking at 118kW. Instead, those MX-5s fitted with a six-speed manual – tweaked for smoother gear changes - now create the 118kW of peak power at 7000rpm, also higher in the rev range. The six-speed auto is still an option and produces the same power at 6700rpm. Mazda says it has also improved the sound of the engine “without causing aural discomfort for people outside the car”. The minor tweaks to improve the quality of the sound are said to deliver a “crisp, thrilling engine sound”.
