Changing Fuel Injectors

Here's the instructions, in case you need them:

 

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Do this by removing the fuel pump relay, starting the car, and letting it run until it stalls. Then, reinstall the fuel pump relay.

 

2. Remove or disconnect the following:

 

a. Negative battery cable.

b. Air cleaner assembly, as necessary, for clearance.

c. Resonator.

d. Accelerator cable.

e. Air intake pipe assembly.

f. Vacuum hose assembly.

g. Fuel injector electrical connectors.

h. Fuel supply/return lines and discard the copper washers.

i. Fuel rail.

j. Six insulators.

k. Distribution harness (accumulated connector) from the fuel rails.

l. Spacer from the top of each fuel injector and discard it.

m. Fuel injectors from the fuel rails by rotating back and forth.

n. Fuel pressure regulator, if necessary.

 

3. To reinstall; install or connect the following:

 

a. Fuel pressure regulator, if removed. Tighten the bolts to 61-86 inch lbs.

b. New O-rings lubricated with engine oil on the injectors.

c. Fuel injectors into the fuel rails.

d. New spacers on the injectors.

e. Distribution harness. Tighten the screws to 22-31 inch lbs.

f. 6 insulators and fuel rails. Tighten the bolts to 14-18 ft. lbs.

g. Fuel supply and return lines using new copper washers.

h. Fuel injector electrical connectors.

i. Vacuum hose assembly. Tighten the nuts to 70-95 inch lbs.

j. Air intake pipe assembly. Tighten the nuts to 70-95 inch lbs. and the bolts to 44-78 inch lbs.

k. Accelerator cable and adjust it. Tighten the bolt to 70-95 inch lbs.

l. Left and right-hand charge air coolers using new O-rings. Tighten the bolts to 14-18 ft. lbs.

m. Resonator. Tighten the nuts to 70-95 inch lbs.

n. Air cleaner assembly. Tighten the nuts to 70-95 inch lbs.

o. Negative battery cable.

 

4. Turn the ignition switch ON to pressurize the fuel system.

 

5. Check for fuel leaks and correct as necessary before starting the engine.
