Replacing Vacuum Hoses On A 2.5

Recommended Posts

So I just finally got around to installing a CAI on my 2002 2.5, thinking about a Phenolic Spacers, but first want to make sure everything else is in tip-top shape. I realize the 2.5 isn't as crazy with regards t vaccum hoses as the 2.3 - worth it to get silicon or will just run of the mill do?

Everyone is going to have a different opinion on that question. But I personally prefer the look and feel of the stock rubber type hoses. I also recently changed some broken hoses on my 2.3, and actually replaced them with Mazda OE hoses, because they had some aggressive pre-bends in them that would be difficult to duplicate with a role of off the shelf hose. It was so nice to have the pre-bent hoses route correctly and easily and snake around the engine the way it is suppose to. But that's just my personal opinion. The only problem is the OE hoses are expensive, I paid about ten bucks each for the couple hoses I bought. Could have bought a 20 foot roll of off the shelf hose for that. I see that's what they are even doing over at my local Mazda dealer, using vacuum hose in a large roll.

I think it is a weird inner diameter size, something like 4mm. The standard off the shelf stuff at the local autoparts store is kind of a tight fit, and with the 2.3 you can wind up snapping off the plastic nipples and stuff. Then you get to replace a hundred dollar plus part on the 2.3, because you got hose that was not the perfect size.
