Ghost T H
i just got a new clarion headunit installed yesterday, and it would seem that when i turn it up really loud the speakers get distorted and sound like theyre going to die out after a couple seconds of it being that loud, what is the problem, i have a head unit and 4 factory speakers, do i need my amplifier installed? Ghost T H
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/Pr...ProductID=14762 53 watts i think?
mts
Hmmm... stock speakers should be able to handle that.... but maybe it needs to be cleaned up with a proper Amp. anything past half on a head unit is usually distortion...
Ghost T H
very strange indeed, it plays at high volume for a min or two, but then it will distort and sound like its losing volume and wants to crap out
mts
Sounds like the Amp in the Clarion is clipping

Ghost T H
well i do have a mtx amp in the garage, would that fix the problem, i also noticed, that when i turn the balance all the wayt o the right or left, it gets better, or when it put it all the way to the rear or front the distortion goes away
mts
Too much work for the small amp in HU.... you need to help it out. Anytime to max the volume you will get distortion A.K.A NOISE.
Ghost T H
turns out another part of this is that the none bose stock speakers in the altima are 2OHM instead of 4, so will installing my amp solve the problem, or do i need all new speakers instead
Arsonist
The amp should fix the problem, like MTS said, other electrical devices in your car or even around you could disrupt the frequency of your system. An amplifier would at least reduce distortion.
Ghost T H
maybe distortion wasnt the right term, because if i go outside right now and turn it on and all the way up, it sounds pretty good when turned all the way up, but then after a few mins of playing, it will sound like it wants to die out like as if the speakers are getting no more power, almost like sitting in your car with the car on without the engine running listening to the radio for a hour, after the batterys almost drained you hear that static output in the speakers because the powers dying, its like that, i think im gonna drop my car off at tweeter before i go to philly, ask them about it and have them install the amp
mts
You are overworking that small amp in the head unit, not many options here... turn it down, or help it out with a bigger amp...
Ghost T H
basically i have to replace all my speakers now, the amp i have can only run 2 speakers at 2 ohms, so the only choice i really have at this point is to by 4 new speakers, fuck! stupid nissan and theyre 2 ohms speakers
mts
Sounds like a milly all over again, when swapping the HU
Arsonist
Oh ok, I thought you meant like that noise you hear when you leave your cellphone next to your speakers and a call comes in. Since you raise the volume and it messes up, then it's also drawing more power than the amp can handle. The longer the wavelenght, the smaller the frequency and the more watts are drawn out. I don't wanna get super technical here, but something similar happens when you have a low-wattage power supply for a computer and a super ultra godzilla video card from hell or hard drives...your powersupply will just overheat and crap out, which could result in your videocard blinking or flashing weird colors or your harddrives freezing up. It isn't necessarily considered interference but yeah...it's a pretty annoying shit to deal with.
