Ikstej24
Here is the response to an email sent to me buy a new member of the other site. He found BHR's old threads and wants to put TSX's or TL's in his '02. I really like to hear when someone wants to do it right, so lets all try to help the guy out. Colby, For your car I would go with the TL projectors. They have a wider diameter lens which would fit your housings better. The only reason I did not go with the TL's is because I didn't have the room, but you do. All factory HID cars come with 4100k capsules. The blue that you see is actually created by the light bending over the cutoff shield of the projector, and each projector reacts differently to this, but the color you are looking for is amazing out of the TL's. Buy only Philips or Osram bulbs/capsules at 4100k or 4300k. That will give you the results that you are looking for. I would also recommend using the Philips gen 3 ballasts. You can buy this kit http://www.hidplanet.com/ballasts.html, that will give you everything but the projectors. To buy the TL projectors, I would recommend that you join this site www.hidplanet.com/forums. Not only is there more information on retrofits and HIDs than you would probably ever want to know, but it is also a great source for members selling parts. The baking that you are hearing about is true. You turn the oven on to 300, let it pre-heat and then turn it off and set your lights in there for 10 mins. This loosens up the glue and allows you to seperate the lens from the housing. I am going to get you in touch with BHR and Blaze (did a TL retrofit on a '02). I can also help you out as you go along. Hitman
rsutton, its simple, have him join here, in the proper MW. as for a retrofit, the TL projectors are bixenons which involve alot more custom work to install and function. No matter what you want to stick with philips 4300k D2S, anything eles is not stock and anyone who has seen hids will instantly know its not. The reason I did a retrofit is because my 00 did not have projectors, for an 01-02 you could actually do a simple drop in 4300k D2S kit and frankly, it does look very oem, for example malice has nothing more then a drop in kit in his 02, but it looks 100% stock and from a distant has fair color along the cutoff. Taking it up a notch and doing a retrofit would provide a sharper and wider beam,. going bixenon can be nice, but requires alot more work, if thats what your up to then it can be done, if you want an easy retrofit but still amazing performance I recommend valeo ECE, its more or less a direct projector swap, still using philips 4300k D2S. again, rsutton, BRING HIM TO THE ENLIGHTENED MW
Ikstej24
I sent him another email tell him to come here. If he wants it to look like his BWM friends...a retrofit is the only way to go. I had a drop in kit before I put my TSX's in and there is a huge difference. The Valeo's have a smaller lens diameter than the stock Stanley halogen projectors, so he would have to do more shroud work. The TL's fit pretty well from what I understand from Blaze and he wouldn't have to hook up the bi-xenon if he didn't wnat to, but the wiring is pretty easy. Hitman
in the 01-02 projectors it will LOOK almost exactly the same, just not as much color, its rather impressive actually, but no, in a 97-00 housing it can not. I would advise him to try to the drop in 4300k kit first, if he's just looking for thge looks then that will do it, no need to waste all the extra money and possibly destroy the headlights, if he wants to upgrade from there he already have the kit needed anyway
excluesiveonez
yeah rob, on the 01-02's it looks 99% stock, if i didnt know him i woulda thought it was stock. beleive me, i was driving in front of him for about an hour on saturday
///BHRpowered
indeed, now in the 95-96 it does not appear AS stock, but frankly, the 01-02 projector sits hids very very well. Besides if you want to upgrade you will already have the kit. none the less, GET HIM OVER HERE. we cannot have him polluted by those who want nothing more then there ghetto rat rides to look like shit in video games
Ikstej24
I sent the email for him to come over here so hopefully he does. I haven't ever seen the pnp kits in the 01/02's so I will take your guys word for it.
///BHRpowered
honestly rsutton you know im all for retrofits, and they do still provide the best performance, but even I was impressed when I installed malices kit. if he wants looks and greatly increased lighting its the way to go, if he gets the itch then a retrofit is just a few h ours of work away
