///BHRpowered
those were actually on my old cell phone, but with 2002's LED demo's needed I decided to start uploading various videos onto youtube, with mazdaworld.net in every tag and description of course. street3890
Ok it's hooked up and the power works but there is no sound coming from the speakers....IDK wtf is wrong, we hooked all the right speaker wires up!!! Do you need to use the factory power wire that is already connected to the stock bose unit? The black square thing? cause i'm currently not and the power works fine but no sound!!!! Anyone know what might be wrong?
///BHRpowered
hmm, did you only change the HU? Â I seem to remember something about needing a bose adaptor or something with the ohms, but its been years since I've messed with it, I'd ask jdubs
Graham
I've read that some Millenias / 800s have an amplifier seperate to the head unit - if this is the case for you, your new headunit may not be compatable with this internal amp seeing as the HU already has an amplifier, or it may not be wired to the remote lead to switch this original amp on. Â OR, your new HU's internal amplifier could be turned off - read through the manual or go through the configuration menu to see if it has this option. Â HTH, G. ///BHRpowered
graham - the bose system actually has 2 amps I believe. Possible 3. in the trunk attached to the seat behind the trim, and another somewhere for the front
street3890
I got it, it works great, it was the antenae wire thing that need to be hooked up because it acts as the amp for the speakers... Â One last thing what would be a good set of speakers for it?
///BHRpowered
I run alpine x-series up front, components, and r-series in the back, all powered by a 500w alpine amp. Â jl subs are both powered by there own alpine mrd-m500 amp..and cap
Jdubs99
01+ Milly's had 2 amps for Bose equipped vehicles. One is dedicated to the 6" sub, the other is on the passenger side behind the carpet attached to the sheetmetal.
///BHRpowered
hmm, I must be thinking of my old m3 then, I swear there were 2 small amps. I have my stock system sitting around in the basement somewhere

///BHRpowered
hmm, wheres the navigation?
Jdubs99
Not a big fan of dedicated navigation systems myself. Eventually you can't get map updates.
///BHRpowered
no, its an all in 1 system, whenever you need new maps you just get a new nav disc, exact same way OEM systems work
Jdubs99
I got it, it works great, it was the antenae wire thing that need to be hooked up because it acts as the amp for the speakers... Â One last thing what would be a good set of speakers for it? Â Â Something doesn't sound right here, unless the 00 and older Millys had a ground seperate from the main radio harness. If the system energized with an antenna touching the radio chassis, a ground isn't connected, and the radio is grounding to the mounting point for the antenna. If this is the case, the FM tuner on the stereo is going to slowly die out. Make sure that small antenna you are talking about connects to chassis ground on the other end. The smaller diameter antenna lead is part of the diversity antenna built into the rear window. Â Looks awesome btw. If any of these headunit manufacturers would start making decent SQ double din units again I'd probably get one. Your lucky now if they even include a 3 band EQ, much less electronic crossovers. ///BHRpowered
I remember this being a problem when testing my HU years ago. If I wanted to use the stock speakers without any extra wiring I needed a bose adaptor. Everything powered on, just no sound.
Graham
It sounds to me like that antenna wire is the control for the power antenna, the same control may be used to turn the amplifier(s) on. If the speakers only work when the antenna is up then this is definitely the case.
///BHRpowered
but the 97+ millenia's dont have a power antenna, its in the glass.
Graham
D'oh - didn't know that one - mine's got a power antenna on the back drivers side (right) quarter panel - being a lowly '94 model

colbylamb2006
yes I like it in the back glass, and I even like the new shark fins on the back of the cars now for XM, are automakers making that antenna have reception for FM radio now too? that would be neat
///BHRpowered
NO, I hate the shark fins. I like my XM antenna the best. Yes, mts it needs to be repainted, but its lines flow with the car.
