DoN_BLaZe34
I wanna hard wire my gf's radar detector to her Torrent...I was going to do like I have mine (to the battery) but I don't feel like drilling through her firewall...is there any other place? Ikstej24
Go to the fuse box on the drivers side under the dash. That is how I did mine.
///BHRpowered
Originally the detector I sold you don was "hardwired" in my millenia. What I did was mount it on the glass, then run the wir edown behind the tweeter grill since it was right there, then remove the cig lighter, plug it in behind the dash, and put my push button start in, 2 mods at once. You could do the fuse box, but just out of curiousity, why not drill?
DoN_BLaZe34
i'm gonna do the fuse box and not drill because drilling is a lot more permanent than i want...how would i go about wiring it to the fuse box...i wanna do it this weeekend.. mts
HArd wire it right to the sunroof power switch, which is only on when the car is on... and right behind the mirror... seems the logical spot
DoN_BLaZe34
that would be a lot of work...the fuse box seems to be the easiest...MY radar's already hardwired... so again i ask..Sutton, how would i go about wiring it to the fuse box? mts
Hard work? Dropping the switch and splicing in behind it, using the live wire and a common ground? Then just taking the wire out the front of the headliner... seems easy.
DoN_BLaZe34
*sigh* i'm not doing this on my millenia...i'm hard wiring my gf's radar in her Pontaic Torrent and the switch isn't easy to pull out in order to access the wires...it'll be easier for me to run them to her fuse box.. so once again how would i go about that
mts
Find a wire in the fuse box that is live when the ignition is ON. Splice into it, and then find a common ground for the negative wire (any bolt into the body should be good). Do you have a multi-meter?
DoN_BLaZe34
nope, no multimeter..
DoN_BLaZe34
i'm kind of a newb when it comes to wiring stuff...i know how to wire regular stuff...i'm not sure how i'd wire something to the fuse box though..so that remains my question.. Ikstej24
Blaze - I will check when I get home for which socket I went into for the hardwire. I don't remember right off hand. But all you do is plug it in with the fuse and then find a screw or something to ground off of.
mts
The only reason I asked about a multi-meter, was so you could easily find a 12 V source that was only live when the ignition was to on... then you could leave the detector ON all the time and it would shut off when you shut the car off. DoN_BLaZe34
yeah i understood ur logic mts...the radar has an on and off switch so she'll just have to manually turn it off and on...if i feel up to it, then i'll borrow milly_engr's multi meter.. sutton, thanks so all i do is plug the end of the wire in with the fuse? mts
Use you radio fuse then... that is off when the car is off. You can just strip the wire and and hook it around the fuse contact and push the fuse back into place. Then find any bolt or screw that is in the body metal for the negative ground.
