LFSoccer2k6
SO lately my sunroof has been opening perfectly fine, but it will not close at all. The motor does not even make a noise. The last time i opened it i had to manually crank it closed which was a pain in the butt. Can anyone here help? Thanks.
///BHRpowered
Start simple with the fuse, should be a small 15-20amp under the drivers side, this happened once on my old infiniti years ago, sometimes it would work, sometimes not, then one day jsut stopped, had to replace the motor. I'v never replaced it, but buy the part used, can't be that hard to change
enginph
How to lube the sunroof??
///BHRpowered
Not exactly sure, probably just take the headliner off, maybe a cover?
latinopikachu
its probably the limit switches giving out. you must remove the headliner to replace or maintain the sunroof. and where is this manual crank you speak of
LFSoccer2k6
The manual cranks is hidden/covered by I guess you would call it the dome light. It takes a weird tool to close it. I have yet to touch that sucker again and i really miss it in the summer here in the STL.
latinopikachu
try opening it partway and seeing it will shut on its own, i bet its the limit switches, although im surprised bhr doesnt have some comment about sunlight from the roof fading the interior or something like that, and are you sure you're using super, if you arent i think thats whats happening, the low octane has gummed up the sunroof motor
enginph
the low octane has gummed up the sunroof motor Agreed dont go cheap or you ll ruin everything in the car.. You may even involve in an accident because of degraded traction..
///BHRpowered
On my old infiniti it took an allen key and was also under the dome light, its hella annoying and time consuming, but does close it
latinopikachu
careful, the low octane may corrode the allan key so it breaks when you try to use it
enginph
careful, the low octane may corrode the allan key so it breaks when you try to use it Pour a gallon of highest octane gasoline on to the sunroof and it will slide like butter. Keep the sunroof open while doing this if you wanna condition the leathers..

///BHRpowered
it is possible, afterall the engine will run correctly, letting the alt spinand give the power needed, charge the battery, move the motor, tis all interconnected. latinopikachu
that brings up a good question, could a loaded down alt caused by a dying battery really lag the engine enough to affect performance? I noticed mine has more power after the battery replacement
Jdubs99
Tis true. Bad termination and low voltage are another maintenance issue that most people don't think about. I spent half a day when i bought my car to make sure there were no huge voltage drops in the major electrical connections. The 2nd gen RX-7 had some really bad issues with cold solder joints on many boards and relays, as well as a weak electrical system.
///BHRpowered
yes lat, it can make a huge difference on the dyno is where you might see it more wit ha battery about to die vs a brand new performance battery
latinopikachu
well my battery died two days ago suddenly in the morning, it gave four revs of the starter, each weaker than the first, until it just clicked rapidly. after the replacement the car starts strongly (it has always started quickly but after it 'catches' it would stumble a microscopic bit and settle out) and doesn't smoke anymore. Zero smoke, from one day to the next. and I have a noticeable increase in power. Wonder what made that happen...
Jdubs99
Incomplete burn of fuel due to ignition system suffering from low voltage?
latinopikachu
probably. but either way, i'm glad it doesn't smoke anymore
///BHRpowered
put the correct gas in. I'v had my optima red top for...er 5 years now?? so I don't remember, lucky for me it died one day in my garage, the rep top with 980 cranking amps has never once failed to start the mighty beast, in my jeep I have a yellow top about 3 years old, other people with older stock batteries have there starter going a bit slower
enginph
Incomplete burn of fuel due to ignition system suffering from low voltage? Thats an alternator problem. Battery ampere doesnt matter since starter is 100 amp or so IIRC.. As far as battery can supply 100 amps it doesnt matter..
///BHRpowered
yes and no, a dying battery that doesn't hold a charge puts alot more stress on the alt, especially at idle and getting away from the line even under normal driving. enginph
yes and no, a dying battery that doesn't hold a charge puts alot more stress on the alt, especially at idle and getting away from the line even under normal driving. Even if you short the alternator (max load), it will supply 100amp at 15V which makes 150W= 0.2 hp. If alternator has 50% efficiency it would load the engine with 0.4hp. This is like eating the pancake before or after the drive

latinopikachu
all i know is that it feels quicker. maybe due to the ECU learning paramaters being reset
