enginph
After hours and months of work on mine, i realized that f.ing prev owner (or mech) didnt put the dust covers back on and it hazed from inside. I tried all the torture instruments mentioned.. I removed one passenger side and cleaned it from inside, they are symmetric now but still not clean enough.. I still need dust covers!! 01mazda
steel wool didnt hurt anything its super fine and i was scared to scratch so i didnt rub real hard.... 01mazda
oh and why do these prjector beem head lights SUCK so much!
enginph
Did you check the dust covers? Mine looks the same as yours. But they should look like: Projectors are good IF the headlight is clean..
///BHRpowered
the projectors are actually really good, but fogged over headlights will limit there output, steel wool should never be used though, its pretty fine, but the damage will cause light to scatter. I would tell you its time to take some very very mild grit sand paper and sand them down perfectly smooth. The dust covers in the back don't make a huge difference though
enginph
The dust covers in the back don't make a huge difference though Without the covers, heat from the engine bake them from inside.. And i had a thin coat of dust which just goes off after a wipe. But it was hell hard to take it apart..
///BHRpowered
except that the heat from the bulb is hotter then the engine. you have plastic covers so it makes much more a difference then the 97-00 which are glass, but still. Mine aren't totally sealed because of the retrofit, no problems
Graham
Is the front surface plastic? If so, try "Mothers Plastic Polish" - it's probably exactly the same as other products mentioned, but I've used this on my wife's Sera and it worked a treat. It looks just like car polish, but is a very mild abrassive for use on clear plastics. Goes on and off with a polishing cloth or similar cloth. HTH, G. ///BHRpowered
as far as I know, 95-96 and 01-02 are plastic, but iv never seen any other 01+ fog over as far as I know, 95-96 and 01-02 are plastic, but iv never seen any other 01+ fog over
mts
Take them apart and use contact cleaner on the the lenses inside, should loosen any greasy residue in there, then rinse with hot water and allow to dry. It is possible that the seals on your bulb covers in the back are gone or loose. If it is haze on the lens front, then you need to wet snad them and clear coat, as they are pitted and corroded from weather.

I guess my fogs are glass and heads are plastic for sure..
mts
If they are plastic.... hot water and dish soap soak.... plastic can be polished outside... glass much harder.

DoN_BLaZe34
headlights are in fact plastic..
///BHRpowered
I don't see why they want back to plastic, the glass used in 97-00 was just fine
01mazda
Glass is more prone to cracking when going from hot to cold then plastic... also Glass wieghts more so lower gas milage........ just my opinion
///BHRpowered
the difference in weight is nothing, especially considering when some people put chrome rims on. The difference in weight between the stock 17 alloys and stock 17 chromes is probably 800% more then the headlights.
enginph
The weight of the headlight glass?? are you talking about. One front seat weighs 100lbs, 45kg IIRC!!
///BHRpowered
I don't think its quite 100lbs. when I had mine out to work on the speaker amp it was heavier then I thought, but not 100, I'd say maybe 60ish?
