enginph
Pricewise optima doesnt make sense. More than 2 years ago I bought one from autozone, 550CCA, for $50. I expect it to last 4-5 years. Optima will last twice of it with more than twice price tag.
ing-schu@online.no
The shortest stock battery lifespan I've had in any car is nine years, in the Camry and the Xedos. They both had the Panasonic battery common in jap cars, I believe. In the 75 Corolla it also looked the same, and lasted 14 years Nothing too special in daily drivers though, if maintained. Troutman
Despite the poopy warranty I expect good things of my red top. For starters the car actually starts properly now. The factory battery had served for 9 years.
SteveSter
When a battery is drained or not used the cells inside start to sulfate and the material wears away. Optima uses dry cell technology so that is not an issue.
///BHRpowered
yes, but my optima has been fully discharged for several months before, plus the battery charger can't fully charge it. and no, optima's make tons of sense. for offroading and extreme angles you really need something dry cell, as well as deep cycle to drive winches, extra lights etc, but since that doesn't apply there great for big sound systems and starting, my rep top lasted alot longer then the factory battery. I think it was a panasonic originally in the millenia. One half cold morning in the garage it didn't start...I was pissed. I did have my system installed which may have had something to do with it, but still
enginph
Something should have drained your battery. My original battery died when I forgot a map light IIRC. Then it was never the same again. It had 7 years and 100k+ miles. With the new battery map light kept on over the weekend and there is no issue..
ing-schu@online.no
The Xedos has a factory alarm, plus clock, ECU and headunit draining slightly, enough to drain the battery beyond cranking power during a month. And as Steve pointed out, this destroys the battery. I guess it was not quite as new up front, but still coped when charged daily.
///BHRpowered
there were 2 years were during the winter I totally removed the battery so it sat for 3 months or so and drained, other years it has been left, but drained only a bit before being charged off and on. It was only last year I got my first maintance charger which did work, this year however the battery seems more or less shot. Last week after it was fully charged I drove around and parked for a few hours, drove some more and never a problem. My aftermarket HU takes some power, clock, ecu, and very oddly sometimes the climate control has reset itself when the charge is very low. I do NOT generally arm the alarm though Grand cherokees have a special fuse, IOD or something, its not a master fuse, but it for storage purposes and basically cuts power to everything except the main ECU and tranny controls. ing-schu@online.no
Makes sense; Jeeps are best suited for not being driven at all.
///BHRpowered
highly incorrect, Jeeps make excellent daily drivers and road trip cars. I'm already planning mods for my 08 overland
latinopikachu
bhr did you just pull straight up on the needle? with the spare 95 tach I had I messed around with it for awhile before finally just pulling offthr needle, the tach motor is weaker than the speedo one or something because it didn't withstand being messed with
